Every patient is biochemically unique.

That’s why off-the-shelf hormone therapies don’t always deliver the best results. At The Medicine Store, we offer a personalized approach to hormone balance through our Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) Collaborative Care Program.

We work closely with you and your provider in what we call the TRIAD of care: Patient. Provider. Pharmacist. Together, we build a plan tailored to your health history, hormone levels, and goals.

What is BHRT?

BHRT uses bioidentical hormones—compounded hormones with the same molecular structure as the ones your body naturally produces. Bioidentical hormones are formulated to closely align with your body’s natural rhythms and are custom-compounded to match your individual dosing needs.

If you need a referral to a qualified provider, we can connect you with trusted local specialists.

* Note: Pharmacists cannot prescribe. Your provider must approve and sign all BHRT prescriptions.

Why Choose The Medicine Store?

When it comes to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, precision and personalization matter. At The Medicine Store, we specialize in custom-compounded BHRT solutions designed to restore hormonal balance safely and effectively. Our experienced pharmacists collaborate closely with patients and providers to create individualized formulations—whether in creams, capsules, troches, or gels—based on your unique hormone profile and treatment goals.

Patient Instructions & Expectations

Before Your First Appointment

  • Complete the Confidential Female Hormone Evaluation Form (link sent via email confirmation).
  • Ensure you’re up to date on relevant screening exams (Pap, Mammogram, Well Woman, etc). We’ll help review current guidelines with you.

Symptom Journal

Track any changes or side effects once BHRT begins. You’ll receive a 6–8 week follow-up call to review and make adjustments.

Lab Work

To monitor hormone balance:

  • We may request serum (blood) or saliva labs before and after starting therapy.
  • Required labs 3 months after starting, then every 6–12 months.
  • Common panels: Estradiol, Estrone, Progesterone, Free & Total Testosterone, DHEA, Vitamin D, Cortisol.

Important:

  • Serum labs must be drawn exactly 5–6 hours after your dose.
  • Saliva tests must follow the kit’s exact timing guidelines.
  • Never stop BHRT doses before testing unless told otherwise.
  • Forward all lab results to our pharmacy for review.
Service Cost

Topical vs. Oral BHRT | Serum vs. Saliva Labs

  • We often recommend non-oral forms (like creams or troches) to avoid first-pass metabolism through the liver and mimic natural hormone delivery.
  • For topical hormones, saliva testing gives more accurate insight than serum.
  • Serum labs are still valuable—especially for oral forms like troches.
  • We use ZRT Laboratories for saliva testing kits (available in-pharmacy).

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between BHRT and regular HRT?

BHRT uses hormones identical to your body’s own. Traditional HRT often uses synthetics with altered structures.

How long does it take to see results?

Some see improvements in weeks. Full hormone balance may take up to 6 months.

Can my provider work with your pharmacist?

Yes. We send recommendations, your provider signs off, and we stay in sync through the entire process.

What forms do the hormones come in?

Topical creams, oral capsules, troches, vaginal creams—based on your needs and labs.

Do I need labs before starting?

Often yes—but we’ll help decide whether baseline labs or post-treatment tracking is needed based on your history.
