Appointment scheduling:

To schedule an appointment at The Medicine Store, Basehor, first choose a service from the drop-down menu below and then click “next.”   There will be several different appointments types to choose from. All vaccine appointment slots will only be for 5 minutes, but you will be required to stay in the pharmacy for 15 minutes after your appointment time to be monitored by our staff. The BHRT consult appointment slot will be for 1 hour. Our Medicare Part D plan comparison appointments are going to be a little different this year. Click link below for more information about those appointments that are now open. Remember, open enrollment is October 15th to December 7th only, so if you would like to look at the Medicare drug and/or Advantage plans available for 2022, you must do so before December 7th! If you are scheduling for a COVID-19 vaccine, be sure you have read all of the information we have below on our homepage, and also be sure you are choosing the vaccine you want to receive from the service drop-down menu. If you would like to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and a flu vaccine both on the same day, schedule the appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine and then you can add on a flu shot to your COVID-19 appointment. Once you have chosen a service from the drop-down menu, you will then choose a date and time for your appointment and continue following the prompts until you get a confirmation.  The confirmation is easy to miss. It will show up under the service drop-down back here on the homepage. You should also receive a confirmation email (check your inbox and junk mail). If you do not receive the confirmation email, please give us a call and we can confirm the appointment over the phone for you. Thank you and we look forward to meeting with you!


Currently, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine can ONLY be given to patients who are 12 years of age or older. If the person the appointment is scheduled for is between 12 and 17 years of age, the appointment MUST be scheduled for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines can ONLY be given to patients who are 18 years of age or older. In order for a minor to receive any vaccine at The Medicine Store, the minor’s parent/legal guardian MUST be present AND sign off on appropriate paperwork.

The Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine does not require a second dose at this time. You will NOT have a 2nd dose appointment. There is a required 2nd dose with the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. For Moderna the second appointment will be 28 days after your first dose and Pfizer-BioNTech will be 21 days after your first dose. We intend for your second dose appointment to be at the same time of the day as your first appointment. We will discuss these details with you at your first appointment.

The Medicine Store has appointments open for the Flulaval Quadrivalent Flu vaccine to ANY patient 6 years of age or older. The Flulaval Quadrivalent vaccine is indicated for any patient 6 MONTHS or older, but the protocol that allows The Medicine Store to administer the flu vaccine states we can only give to patients who are 6 YEARS of age or older.

We also have ONLY a few of the over 65 years of age “senior” flu vaccines, but will be scheduling those appointments over the phone only. The over 65 “senior” flu vaccine appointments will not be visible on this website.

If you had your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine somewhere other than at The Medicine Store, Basehor, we ask that you schedule an appointment if you want to receive your second dose with us instead of where you received the first dose. If you schedule and receive your first dose with us, there will be no need to schedule an appointment for your second dose. We will pre-schedule your second dose for the appropriate day depending on which vaccine you receive at your first appointment. We will discuss these details with you at your first dose appointment.

It has recently been announced that Kansas providers may now administer an “additional dose” of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines to individuals who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. If you have already completed the 2 dose series of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines AND also meet the criteria of moderately or severely immunocompromised and would like to receive an “additional dose” of the COVID-19 vaccine, we ask that you schedule an appointment for this “additional dose.” You will be asked at your appointment to self-attest that you meet CDC’s criteria of moderately or severely immunocompromised. (click on link below to see CDC’s criteria) This “additional dose” must be at least 28 days after the second dose of your 2 dose series and must be scheduled for the same vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech) you have already received. Additional doses are NOT approved for individuals who originally received the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine at this time. Click on link below for more information about these “additional” doses for those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.

It has also recently been announced that “booster” doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine can now be administered to certain individuals who have completed the two dose series of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago (counted from the second dose) and meet the criteria below. Again, If you have already completed the 2 dose series of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine AND meet the criteria below for a “booster dose,” we ask that you schedule an appointment for this “booster dose.”

Criteria to be eligible for a “booster dose” of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine:

  • people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer,
  • people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer,
  • people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer, based on their individual benefits and risks, and
  • people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting (including health care workers) may receive a booster shot of Pfizer, based on their individual benefits and risks.

The underlying medical conditions included are:

  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Chronic lung disease, such as COPD, moderate to severe asthma, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension
  • Current or former smoker
  • Diabetes
  • Down syndrome
  • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, CAD, cardiomyopathies, and hypertension
  • HIV
  • Immunocompromised state
  • Liver disease
  • Neurological conditions, including dementia and Alzheimer’s
  • Overweight and obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell disease or thalassemia
  • Solid organ or stem cell transplant
  • Stroke or cerebrovascular disease
  • Substance use disorder

For those who received their initial COVID-19 vaccine series as Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) there is still not quite yet an authorization for a “booster dose” for any individual yet. The soonest we as a pharmacy will be approved to give Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) boosters is Friday, October 22nd. Once we officially have that authorization, we will open up booster appointments for those 2 vaccines. Please DO NOT schedule a booster for one of those vaccines any earlier than Friday, October 22nd.

There will be NO OUT-OF-POCKET COST to ANY patient for the COVID-19 vaccine regardless of insurance coverage. However, as a provider we can bill your insurance (if you have it) for the administration of the vaccine, so please bring your medical and pharmacy insurance cards to your vaccine appointment. The Flulaval Quadrivalent Flu vaccine will be subject to the copay set by your insurance with a max out of pocket cost of $40 if you do not have insurance.

If you are on Medicare please bring your red, white & blue Medicare card.

Last, please bring a photo ID or at least some sort of identification so that we can verify the age of the patient receiving the vaccine.

Once you’ve scheduled an appointment, there is an immunization screening and consent form that needs to be filled out. Click the link below to print off the form. There is a one form for the COVID-19 vaccine and a second form for all other vaccines. If you are receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and another vaccine at the same appointment, you will have to fill out both forms. If you don’t have the ability to print the form(s) out at home, we will provide the paperwork for you and you can fill it out at the pharmacy during your appointment.

 If you are unable to schedule an appointment with us, we recommend checking with your local health department for vaccine availability. The Leavenworth County Health Department has been hosting several walk-in vaccination clinics. Please refer to the health department website for details regarding these clinics:
