COVID-19 Info

To schedule an appointment at The Medicine Store, Basehor, first choose a service from the drop-down menu on the home page and then click “next.”

There will be several different appointments types to choose from. We do have the updated bivalent COVID-19 booster for both Pfizer and Moderna. We only have the 12 years of age and older version of this updated bivalent booster at this time. We do not have the pediatric version of this bivalent booster that was just approved 10/12/22 yet, but plan to have it in a couple of weeks, so check back on our website then.

All vaccine appointment slots will only be for 5 minutes, but you will be required to stay in the pharmacy for 15 minutes after your appointment time to be monitored by our staff. If you are scheduling for a COVID-19 vaccine, be sure you have read all of the information we have below, and also be sure you are choosing the type of COVID-19 vaccine you want to receive from the service drop-down menu.

We also have the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine. It is only available for patients 18 years of age and older and it is a 2 dose series with the 2nd dose needing to be 3 to 8 weeks after the first dose. There are not boosters available for Noravax yet.

Appointments for both rapid antigen and PCR COVID-19 testing are also available on the service drop down menu of the home page. Only 1 appointment per vehicle is necessary. So, if more than one person is coming with you to be tested, schedule the appointment for just one of the people that will be in the vehicle and one of the prompts during the scheduling process will ask you how many people will be with you to be tested in your vehicle. We only open appointments for this service a few days in advance, since we are not always sure how many tests we will have in stock from the state. Also, be sure to schedule for the correct type of COVID-19 test you want to receive (PCR or rapid antigen test). We are a community testing partner with the state of Kansas. This means the State is funding this program, and, therefore, we are able to offer these tests at no out-of-pocket cost to ANYONE in the public regardless of type of insurance one may have. The State is currently funding both types of tests.  In addition to the testing we do through our drive through by appointment, we are also able to bill most insurances including Medicare for up to 8 at-home COVID-19 tests per person per month. Stop by anytime and we can see if OTC tests are covered by your insurance.

Once you have chosen a service from the drop-down menu, you will then choose a date and time for your appointment and continue following the prompts until you get a confirmation.  The confirmation is easy to miss. It will show up under the service drop-down back here on the homepage. You should also receive a confirmation email (check your inbox and junk mail). If you do not receive the confirmation email, please give us a call and we can confirm the appointment over the phone for you. Thank you and we look forward to meeting with you!

If you schedule an appointment for a vaccine, there is an immunization screening and consent form that needs to be filled out. Click the link below to print off the form. There is a one form for the COVID-19 vaccine and a second form for all other vaccines. If you are receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and another vaccine at the same appointment, you will have to fill out both forms. If you don’t have the ability to print the form(s) out at home, we will provide the paperwork for you and you can fill it out at the pharmacy during your appointment.

If you are unable to schedule an appointment with us, we recommend checking with your local health department for vaccine availability. The Leavenworth County Health Department has been hosting several walk-in vaccination clinics. Please refer to the health department website for details regarding these clinics: https://www.leavenworthcounty.gov/information/covid-19_information/covid_list.php

We have free N95 masks available while supplies last. Please ask for your free mask(s) at the pharmacy counter when you visit the pharmacy next.

Thanks again for your support. As always, we love being a part of this community!

COVID At-Home Tests

As of April 4, 2022 Medicare and several other commercial insurance providers cover up to 8 over-the-counter COVID-19 tests each calendar month, at no cost to you.  This coverage continues until the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) ends.
Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) will cover these tests if you have Part B.
If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you are still eligible for this benefit, it just does not go through the Advantage Plan.  ALL Medicare enrollees will need to show us your red, white, and blue Medicare card to get your At-Home OTC COVID-19 tests covered (even if you have another card for a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Medicare Part D plan, we will still need to see your red, white and blue Medicare card).
Patients on Medicare will not have to pay for these tests unless a patient tries to request and receives more than the 8 covered OTC COVID -19 tests in any calendar month.  If you end up getting more than 8 (even if you get them from more than one pharmacy or provider), we, the pharmacy, will send you an invoice asking you to pay for any quantity over 8 tests you receive in a single calendar month.
If for some reason your insurance will not pay for these tests at our pharmacy these tests can be purchased for $12 per test.  Again though, MOST insurances will cover them with NO out-of-pocket cost to you.
This At-Home OTC tests being covered by insurance is a completely different program from the testing we will continue to do through our drive-through by-appointment, which is funded by the State of Kansas.

Need any At-Home OTC COVID-19 tests?  Did you know they might be covered by your insurance? Stop by the pharmacy today and let us process up to 8 tests per month on your insurance.  They are good to have at home, just in case!  Anyone who’s been there knows, you go through these tests FAST once you think you need them.
Most insurance providers, including Medicare allow for 8 test kits per family member EACH calendar month.  Please click here or stop by the pharmacy for a copy of the OTC COVID-19 test request form.  Once we have the completed form we can submit a claim to your insurance and see if the tests are covered.
